eBay:
eBay is one of the best known Internet companies. It provides an online auction platform where normal people and businesses buy and sell almost any imaginable product or service.
The site was created in 1995 by Pierre Omidyar and commenced it’s services under the name AuctionWeb. The first product sold was a broken laser pointer for $15. The buyer was a collector of broken laser pointers and was happy with his purchase.
In the
following years eBay developed into what it is now, a multi
million dollar company and the undisputed market leader for
online auctions. eBay has become almost the synonym for selling
goods online. It is one of the most visited sites on the net
with about 150 million registered users. There are 12 million
auctions running all the time.

Internet marketers can profit from eBay in several ways.
The most obvious is to become a professional eBay seller and take advantage from the millions of buyers visiting the eBay marketplace every day.
Another, not so obvious and less well known way is to use eBay’s auction listings and additional eBay resources to build business relations to all bidders for an item. Not only – as 99% of all eBay sellers do - to the winning bidder and not only for the time the auction is running but for longer. That means using eBay with it’s millions of daily visitors as a traffic source to one’s own website.
Yet another way is to publish eBay AdContext on one’s website (quite similar to Google AdSense). These are context sensitive small ads – per eBay sensitive to what the user is actually shopping for - showing eBay auctions including the current bid price. The publisher can make money every time a user clicks on one of the ads and then buys the auction article.
