Preselling:

Preselling is a technique which is mainly applied in the field of affiliate marketing. An affiliate is someone who promotes product s of others, directs visitors via his unique affiliate link to the sales page and if they purchase, receives a commission for the sale. In this framework Preselling means that the affiliate on his website or in his marketing emails provides the visitor with valuable content relevant to the recommended product to put the user into a positive state of mind towards the product.

This can be done by describing his own experience using it, giving valuable information about special product features, maybe even note some critique points to come across as unbiased and trustworthy.

If done right, the user will click on the affiliate link and visit the actual vendor’s sales page and ideally purchase the product.

Preselling does not mean, however, that the affiliate should already try to hard sell the potential customer on his page and then direct him to the sales page where he is sold again.

Successful affiliates understand the difference between Preselling and selling and avoid any hard sell in their promotions.

[Pre- means before and Sell is from Old English sellan = to give]
