| Page: Definition Mailing List |
The Mailing List of
an Internet marketer contains all those people who have
opted-in
and have granted him permission to send them marketing
emails and/or his newsletter
. Most marketers manage and mail to their list
through an autoresponder
service or
software.
Many marketers consider their list as their most valuable asset
and building and maintaining their list has highest priority in
all their undertakings. The popular saying “The Money is in the
List” indicates why this is. If he can build a good relation to
his subscribers and establish a reputation of competence and
trustworthiness he has a good chance of a high
conversion
rate when he sends out
a sales message to his list.
Depending on the situation it may be wise to divide up one’s list into categories so one can send even better tailored messages to a specific category. Promoting a highly priced product might be well suited to subscribers who have already purchased something and proven their willingness to spend money while on the other hand subscribers who haven’t bought anything yet, might be put off by the high price and might not respond well on subsequent messages.
A marketer active in several niches will of course separate his list corresponding to each niche so that he doesn’t send a recommendation for a new car wax to subscribers from his alternative medicine website.
[List comes from early Italian lista = a roll of names, strip (of paper)]
