Incentive:

An Incentive in Internet marketing is a reward or bonus added to an offer to increase the motivation of a user to act in the desired direction such as subscribing to a list  or purchasing a product . It could be in the form of financial compensation or additional free products a free consultation or else.

There is hardly a sales page advertising a product without a list of additional bonuses as incentive to buy.

In CPA (cost per action) networks there often is a differentiation between incentivised and non-incentivised offers. That means the advertiser of the offer either allows or doesn’t allow publishers adding an incentive for a visitor to perform the desired action. Advertisers do this sometimes because for leads who gave name and email address only because they were keen to receive the bonus there is less probability that they become customers compared to leads who subscribed because of a genuine interest in the offer.

[Incentive comes from Latin incentivus = setting the tune. The sense is influenced by Latin incendere = to kindle, set on fire]
