Doorway Page:
This is a
website
page which is optimised to get good rankings in the
search engines but is not intended to provide content for the
visitors or even to be seen by them. Instead visitors are
automatically redirected to the page they are supposed to visit
without their knowledge. It is a Black-Hat SEO
method which often includes some form of cloaking. If
detected by the search engine the site containing a Doorway
Page will be excluded from the index. There are many other
designations for Doorway Page such as Bridge Page, Gateway Page
or landing
page (this term also has
another definition; see under respective entry) and
others.
There is also a form of a Doorway Page which is optimised for the search engines but is also supposed to provide acceptable content and site appearance and which doesn’t use automatic redirection.
[Door comes from Old English duru = door and dor = gate;
Way comes from Old English weg , akin to Latin vehere = to carry;
Page comes from Latin pagina = a column of writing, akin to pangere = to fix, make fast]
