Coupon Code:

A method of offering selected customers a bonus in form of a discounted sales price as an incentive to buy a product /service.

If an Internet marketer releases a new product he may want to give the subscribers to his mailing list a rebate. He can do that by mailing them the offer with a link to the sales page  plus a Code they have to enter in the Coupon Code field on the order page.

Example for the use of a Coupon Code for the Visitor Sense Videos by J.P. Schoeffel. The Code was sent out by email. After entering it in the Coupon field and clicking the Update Form button (upper window) the new payment window (below) showes a discounted price of $500 less than the regular sales price.

Product sellers can also allow Joint Venture partners to offer their subscribers a Coupon discount.

According to test results Coupons can improve sales conversions enormously as customers love this form of special treatment.

[Coupon is from Old French colpon = a piece cut off; colper = to cut;

Code comes from Latin codex, caudex = tree trunk, book (as books were originally made from wooden tablets)]
